Tax Exempt Pro - B2B Tax & VAT Exemption by Customer Group, Full or Partial Rates
Sell tax-free to the customer groups you choose — B2B and wholesale buyers, non-profits, schools, diplomatic missions — with full (100%) or partial exemption rates. Prices, cart, checkout, invoices and emails are all calculated without (or with reduced) tax, and exempt customers see a clear "tax-free" notice at every step. Built on PrestaShop's native taxManager hook: no core overrides, no file editing, with automatic health checks and a built-in self-test. For PrestaShop 1.7 – 9.
Some customers simply shouldn't pay tax
Wholesale and B2B buyers expect net prices. Non-profits, schools, government and diplomatic buyers are legally exempt. Handling that with manual refunds or a separate price list is slow and error-prone. Tax Exempt Pro makes it automatic: tick a customer group, save, and every member of that group buys tax-free — prices, cart, checkout, invoices, credit slips, emails and the webservice all calculate without tax.
How it works
- 1. Tick the exempt groups — the configuration page lists every customer group with its member count. Select the ones that should be exempt.
- 2. Set the rate — 100% for a full exemption, or any partial rate (e.g. 50% turns a 21% VAT into 10.5%). Highest rate wins when a customer belongs to several exempt groups.
- 3. Save — it's live immediately — every customer in the group is exempt from their next page view. No cache clearing, no file editing, no theme changes.
Exempt customers always know where they stand
A small green note appears under the product price — "Tax-exempt price — no tax will be added at checkout" — and a success banner confirms it on the cart, at checkout and on the My account page. Fully exempt customers also stop seeing confusing "tax incl. / tax excl." labels. In the back office, the customer sheet shows a tax-exemption card with the effective rate and the group(s) granting it.
It checks its own health
The configuration page runs automatic health checks and a live self-test: the module executes your shop's real tax dispatch against an actual customer of an exempt group and reports the resulting rate — green means working, red points at the exact failing link (hook not attached, a competing tax module answering first, taxes disabled shop-wide…). Group permissions are self-repairing too: groups created after installation are authorized automatically, so nobody silently keeps paying tax.
Clean, modern engineering
- Native taxManager hook — the same extension point PrestaShop's official VAT module uses. No core override, no file is ever touched.
- Safe upgrades from v1.x — the old TaxCalculator override is removed with PrestaShop's own routine, settings are migrated automatically, and leftovers are detected on the configuration page.
- Strict, atomic validation — rates must be between 0 and 100 (both `12.5` and `12,5` accepted); nothing is saved if any value is invalid, so live settings never end up half-updated.
- Clean uninstall — all configuration keys are removed and the selected groups simply pay taxes again.
Compatibility
PrestaShop 1.7, 8 and 9. Requires taxes enabled (International > Taxes) and the customer groups feature (on by default). Works with any theme — notices are standard hook templates you can unhook individually.
Frequently asked questions
Can I give a partial exemption instead of removing tax completely?
Yes. Set any rate from 0 to 100 per group — e.g. a 50% exemption turns 21% VAT into 10.5%. Each group can have its own rate, and the highest rate wins for customers in several groups.
Does it change what non-exempt customers see?
No. Notices and price changes only apply to members of exempt groups; everyone else shops exactly as before.
What about invoices and order emails?
Fully exempt orders simply contain no tax — invoices, credit slips, emails and webservice data are all consistent, with no PDF translation editing.
A customer in an exempt group still pays tax — what do I do?
Open the module's configuration page once: it re-attaches the hooks shop by shop, repairs group permissions, and then runs a self-test that tells you the resulting tax rate and, if something is wrong, the exact cause.
Can I exempt visitors who are not logged in?
Yes — exempting the special Visitor group changes the prices everyone sees before logging in. The configuration page labels these special groups clearly.
What happens when I uninstall?
All module settings are removed and the selected customer groups pay taxes again — the module never touches core files or shop-wide tax settings.
